Preventing reperfusion injury through inhibition of mitochondrial ROS function

a collaboration with Prof Mervyn Singer and Dr Alex Dyson, University College London

Prof Mervyn Singer and Dr Alex Dyson, Intensive Care Medicine, University College London have identified a novel agent with properties suitable for the transient inhibition of mitochondrial function, resulting in a pharmacological effect similar to therapeutic hypothermia, leading to inhibition of reactive oxygen species and decreased reperfusion injury following MI, stroke or haemorrhagic shock1.  Based on this research, Apollo and University College London teams are now collaborating to optimise the studies and demonstrate efficacy in translationally validated, large animal studies, prior to moving into clinical validation.
